Literary Context
Psalm 26 presents itself as a personal plea in which the speaker’s conduct is offered as evidence that his life does not match the accusations or threats around him. Verses 4–5 belong to a cluster of statements describing what he does not do and who he does not align with, supporting his request to be treated as someone acting with integrity. The logic moves from everyday companionship (“sit with”) to entering into shared plans (“go in with”), then to larger public groupings (“assembly”), building a picture of consistent distance from corrupt social environments.
