Literary Context
Psalm 39 reads like a personal reflection that moves from guarded silence to honest prayer. Earlier the speaker tries not to speak in ways that would intensify trouble, but inner pressure builds until he addresses God directly. He reflects on how short and fragile human life is and how easily people chase what will not last. Verses 7–8 function as a pivot: after describing life’s limits and the futility of self-made security, he states where his waiting and expectation are finally placed, then turns that hope into concrete requests.
