Literary Context
These closing lines function like the psalm’s final turn. Earlier in Psalm 40 the speaker remembers being rescued and responds with public praise and commitment, but also returns to present dangers and asks for help. Verses 16–17 bring both strands together: a community-facing shout of encouragement and praise (v.16), followed by a personal, immediate cry (v.17). The logic moves from “may all seekers rejoice” to “but as for me, I am in urgent need,” ending the psalm with unresolved tension and dependence.
