Literary Context
Psalm 45 reads like a celebratory song for a king, moving from praise of the king to the wedding setting and then to the bride and her future. Verses 8–9 belong to the part that paints the royal court in motion: scent, sound, and attendants. The logic is mainly cinematic: first the king’s garments and the music that delights him, then the notable people present, and finally the queen’s honored position beside him. This builds expectation for the direct address to the bride that follows in the next lines (beyond this unit).
