Literary Context
Psalm 46 is a confidence psalm that portrays God as a secure refuge when the world is unstable. Earlier lines describe shaking earth, roaring waters, and hostile nations, and they contrast that chaos with God’s steady protection and presence. The psalm also invites the audience to look at God’s decisive actions that end conflict and break instruments of war (vv. 8–9). Verse 10 functions as a climactic divine speech: instead of the psalmist narrating, God addresses the hearers, interpreting the turmoil and directing the proper response.
