Literary Context
Psalm 5 is a prayer shaped like a morning appeal for help: the speaker approaches God, contrasts God’s stance toward evil with his own desire to come near, and then asks for protection and direction. Verse 8 sits at the turning point where the prayer moves from describing God and the situation into direct requests. The “enemies” theme has already been introduced in the wider psalm and continues afterward, but here the focus narrows to guidance: the speaker does not only want safety; he wants a clear path to walk under pressure.
