Literary Context
Psalm 73 wrestles with the crisis caused by seeing arrogant and unjust people prosper. Earlier the speaker admits near-stumbling and confusion (cf. Psalm 73:16–17). Verses 18–20 develop the insight about "their end" with images of unstable footing, sudden collapse, and dreamlike insubstantiality, before the psalm moves on to the speaker's recalibrated perspective.
