Earlier, the speaker nearly “slipped” because life seemed unfair, and he felt tempted to say that living faithfully was pointless (vv. 2–14). A turning point comes when he enters God’s sanctuary and rethinks the end of the wicked and his own path (vv. 15–20). Verses 21–26 then function as the speaker’s personal “afterward”: he confesses his earlier mindset, names God’s ongoing nearness, and restates what he now considers truly worth wanting.

Others read it as God’s future vindication and honor within life, where “glory” refers to a reversal of shame and a restored standing as God leads him forward.
The phrases are short and poetic, and the psalm does not spell out the timing. “Glory” can mean God’s honor/presence or an honored outcome, and “afterward” can point either to a later stage in life or to what comes after death. The psalm’s broader theme—justice that is not obvious in the present—also invites readers to ask how far the resolution extends.
Explicit textual claims include the speaker’s bitterness and self-critique (vv.21–22), God’s ongoing hold and guidance (vv.23–24), the “afterward…receive…to glory” expectation (v.24), and the claim that God is desired above all and remains strength and “portion forever” even as human strength fails (vv.25–26).
Theological inference (grounded in those claims) is that the psalm presents God’s presence as the stabilizing answer to moral confusion, and it frames hope as something anchored in God’s continuing guidance plus a future outcome that outweighs present weakness and envy.
