Literary Context
Psalm 73 has moved from envy and confusion over the apparent success of the wicked (earlier in the psalm) to a clearer perspective gained in God’s presence, where the psalmist re-evaluates outcomes and loyalties. After describing the slippery end of the arrogant and his own renewed grasp on God, the poem now concludes with a tight, summary contrast. Verse 27 restates the fate of those who are “far” from God. Verse 28 answers with the psalmist’s chosen stance—nearness, refuge, and testimony—bringing the psalm’s struggle into a settled resolution.
