Many readers place the setting sometime after return from displacement, when life in the land still felt fragile and incomplete, but the poem itself stays general enough to fit multiple periods when Israel sought restoration, stability, and renewed communal joy in worship.

These verses are a community plea directed to “the God of our salvation” and to Yahweh by name.
