Literary Context
Psalm 97 is a praise psalm that presents Yahweh as king and worthy of public joy. Earlier lines describe his rule as visible in the world, bringing fear to opponents and joy to those aligned with him, and calling all worshipers to recognize his superiority. The psalm also distinguishes between those who love Yahweh and reject wrong, and those whose loyalties are exposed as empty. Verse 12 functions as a closing summons that gathers the psalm’s message into a simple, communal response: joy and thanks directed to Yahweh himself.
