Proverbs / Question
Proverbs 1:7 means true knowledge starts with reverent trust before the LORD. Wisdom is not merely collecting information; it begins with rightly honoring God and receiving instruction.
Proverbs opens by explaining its purpose: wisdom, instruction, justice, prudence, and guidance. The fear of the LORD is the foundation for that whole path. The contrast is with fools who despise wisdom and correction.
This verse sets the terms for the whole book. Readers cannot understand Proverbs if wisdom is separated from worship, humility, and teachability.
7The fear of Yahweh is the beginning of knowledge; But the foolish despise wisdom and instruction.
