11:5-6Meaning
Early power imbalance and a failed marriage deal Verse 5 opens with the southern king “strong,” but then introduces “one of his princes” who becomes stronger than the king and rules a large domain. Verse 6 jumps forward: after some years, the two sides attempt to “join themselves together” through a diplomatic marriage, with the southern king’s daughter going north to secure an agreement. The plan collapses: she does not keep her “strength,” and neither she nor the northern partner (and his supporting “arm”) endures. She is “given up,” along with people associated with bringing and supporting her.
