3:22Meaning
Yahweh’s grip and the summons to the plain Ezekiel reports that “the hand of Yahweh” is upon him, signaling an overpowering divine push into action. Yahweh tells him to get up and go out to the plain, promising that the conversation will happen there rather than where Ezekiel currently is.
Unit 2 (v. 23a): Obedient movement to the appointed place
Ezekiel does exactly what he is told: he gets up and goes out to the plain. The narrative stresses the straightforward sequence—command, rising, going—so the meeting is framed as initiated and arranged by Yahweh.
Unit 3 (v. 23b): The same glory appears; Ezekiel collapses
In the plain, Ezekiel sees Yahweh’s glory “standing there,” and he identifies it as the same glory he previously saw by the Chebar canal (Ezekiel 1:1–3). The recognition links the encounters. Ezekiel’s immediate reaction is to fall on his face, a physical response of overwhelm and submission before what he sees.
