44:4Meaning
Brought to the north gate; glory fills the house; Ezekiel collapses Ezekiel is led around to the north gate that faces “the house,” placing him at a viewpoint directly in front of the temple complex. From there he sees Yahweh’s glory filling Yahweh’s house. The sight prompts an immediate bodily response: he falls on his face, showing that the scene is experienced as overpowering and not merely informative.
Unit 2 (v. 5a): A direct address that demands full attention
Yahweh speaks to Ezekiel as “son of man” and commands him to concentrate: take it seriously (“mark well”), look carefully, and listen carefully. The repeated call to use eyes and ears stresses that what follows is meant to be received accurately and remembered.
Unit 3 (v. 5b): The content focus—temple rules, instructions, and controlled access
Yahweh specifies the subject matter: all the ordinances and all the laws concerning the house of Yahweh. Ezekiel is also told to pay close attention to the house’s entrance and every exit of the sanctuary, highlighting that access routes and movement boundaries are central to the coming instructions.
