1:15Meaning
God’s initiative and Paul’s framing of his life Paul says the change began “when it was the good pleasure of God.” He describes God as the one who set him apart from the very beginning of his life (“from my mother’s womb”) and who later “called” him. The call is described as coming “through his grace,” so Paul presents it as something given rather than earned.
Unit 2 (v. 16a): Purpose—revelation leading to a mission
Paul states the purpose of this call: God acted “to reveal his Son in me.” He links that inner disclosure to an outward goal: “that I might preach him among the Gentiles.” The movement is from what God made known to Paul to what Paul is to announce publicly to others.
Unit 3 (v. 16b): Immediate response—no human consultation
Paul adds what he did not do right away: he “didn’t immediately confer with flesh and blood.” The phrase points to not seeking initial direction or validation from merely human sources.
