Literary Context
These lines open the letter’s first major confrontation, coming immediately after the opening greeting (Galatians 1:1–5). Instead of a thanksgiving section, Paul moves straight to rebuke and explanation: their change is framed as desertion, the “different” message is denied legitimacy, and the cause is traced to troublemakers. This sets up the defense of Paul’s message and authority later (Galatians 1:11–12).
