Literary Context
These lines close the short “song” of Isaiah 12, which reads like a communal response after fear has been turned into confidence. Earlier in the chapter, the speaker moves from personal testimony (“I will trust”) to shared celebration (“with joy you will draw water”), and then to outward proclamation among the peoples (Isaiah 12:1–4). Verses 5–6 intensify that movement: praise rises into singing, and news of Yahweh’s deeds is pushed outward “in all the earth,” while the center of celebration remains Zion because the Holy One is there.
