46:12Meaning
A direct summons to the stubborn The speaker commands, “Listen to me,” and targets “stout-hearted” people—those who are resistant and unmoved. Their problem is described as being “far from righteousness,” meaning they are distant from what God calls right, whether in trust, posture, or conduct.
Unit 2 (v. 13a): God counters “far” with “near”
God answers their distance by saying, “I bring near my righteousness.” What is “near” is not presented as their achievement but as God’s action and timetable. The line repeats the idea for emphasis: it “shall not be far off.”
Unit 3 (v. 13b–c): No delay, a specific placement, a defined people
The promise continues: “my salvation shall not wait,” stressing that the coming change is imminent rather than indefinite. Finally, the promise becomes located and communal: God will “place salvation in Zion” for “Israel,” described as “my glory,” tying the coming deliverance to Zion’s restoration and Israel’s renewed standing.
