Literary Context
These verses sit inside the recurring Judges cycle: Israel turns to other gods, experiences oppression, cries out, and then deliverance emerges. Just before this, Yahweh recounts repeated rescues and Israel’s repeated abandonment, warning that their chosen gods should help them instead (Judges 10:10–14). Verses 15–16 function as Israel’s reply to that hard word—both a request and an enacted change of loyalty. The surrounding narrative moves toward the next conflict and leadership developments in the Gilead setting.
