18:31Meaning
Jerusalem and the prophets Jesus pulls the twelve away from others and announces they are going up to Jerusalem. He frames what is about to happen as the completion of what was written “through the prophets” about the Son of Man.
Unit 2 (vv. 32–33a): Handed over and abused
Jesus lays out the coming actions against him: he will be delivered to the Gentiles, then mocked, shamefully treated, and spit on. The mistreatment escalates to scourging and then death.
Unit 3 (vv. 33b–34): Rising and the disciples’ non-understanding
He adds a final reversal: on the third day he will rise again. Luke then emphasizes three times that the disciples did not understand; the saying was hidden from them, and they could not grasp what was said.
