22:23-28Meaning
A test case meant to make resurrection look inconsistent Sadducees approach Jesus and are identified as people who say there is no resurrection. They cite Moses’ instruction about a brother marrying a childless widow to produce offspring for the deceased brother. They then narrate an exaggerated case: seven brothers marry the same woman one after another, each dying without children; finally the woman dies. Their punchline question is practical and pointed: in the resurrection, whose wife will she be, since all seven had her.
