Literary Context
Psalm 100 is a short hymn that moves from invitation to praise toward reasons for that praise. The broader psalm urges glad, public worship and then anchors that worship in statements about Yahweh’s identity and relationship to the worshiping community (see Psalm 100:1–5). Verse 3 sits in the middle as a hinge: it shifts from the call to approach God to the grounding truths that explain why such joyful worship is fitting. The logic is simple: recognize who God is, then recognize who you are in relation to him.
