Literary Context
Psalm 110 is a compact royal poem that portrays a ruler receiving authority, exercising rule, and being supported in conquest. Verse 3 sits inside the opening movement where the ruler’s strength and expansion are described (vv. 1–3). After the declaration of enthronement and rule (vv. 1–2), v. 3 adds what the ruler’s reign looks like in human terms: a ready people who show up on the decisive day. The images of holiness and morning dew reinforce an atmosphere of consecrated purpose and fresh, energetic momentum rather than weariness or decline.
