Literary Context
Psalm 17 is a prayer from someone under pressure who insists he has acted with integrity and asks God to listen, examine him, and protect him from ruthless attackers. Much of the psalm contrasts the speaker’s dependence on God with the predators’ violence and confidence. Near the end, the speaker notes that his opponents receive their “portion” in this life, including food and family security (vv. 13–14). Verse 15 closes by setting a different “portion”: the speaker’s goal is to see God and be satisfied, completing the psalm’s movement from urgent pleading to steady expectation.
