Literary Context
Psalm 2 moves from international opposition (vv. 1–3), to the LORD’s response and installation of the king (vv. 4–6), to a reported decree (v. 7). Verses 8–9 continue that divine address to the king, expanding the scope of rule and depicting the means of subduing resistance. The psalm then turns to exhortation and warning for rulers (vv. 10–12).
