Literary Context
Psalm 2 moves from international resistance to a counter-response that centers on Yahweh’s rule and his chosen king. Earlier lines describe nations and rulers plotting together and rejecting restraint; then the focus shifts upward to Yahweh’s firm intention to set his king on Zion. Verse 7 begins a new voice: the king himself now speaks, not to argue with the rebels but to report what Yahweh has already declared. This verse functions as the king’s citation of the defining royal word that explains why his position stands, regardless of opposition.
