Literary Context
Psalm 21 is a royal song of gratitude that celebrates God’s help to the king after victory and answers to prayer. Earlier lines describe the king receiving strength, honor, and enduring blessing, framing the scene as public praise for God’s support of the ruler. Verse 7 functions like a hinge: it explains why the king’s position is secure and why the celebration makes sense. Immediately after this verse, the psalm turns toward confidence about future threats, describing how enemies will be found and defeated, before ending with a call for God to be exalted.
