Literary Context
Psalm 67 is a short song that moves from a request that God would show favor and be known to the world (vv. 1–2), to repeated calls for the nations to respond with praise (vv. 3, 5), and then to reasons for that praise, including God’s just guidance of the nations and the earth’s fruitfulness (vv. 4, 6–7). Verse 3 stands at the first turning point: once God’s ways are made known, the fitting response is worldwide praise. Its repetition anticipates the psalm’s later repetition and helps structure the poem as a call-and-answer pattern.
