Literary Context
These verses conclude a prayer that mixes need, trust, and praise. Earlier in the psalm the speaker keeps calling for God to listen and answer, describing himself as needy and devoted, and asking for protection from violent opponents. He also places his request inside what he believes about Yahweh’s character—good, forgiving, and attentive to those who call. In vv. 16–17 the prayer narrows to a final cluster of appeals and then ends by naming the desired outcome (enemies seeing) and the reason for confidence (Yahweh’s help and comfort), tying petition to expectation.
