Literary Context
Psalm 99 is a praise poem centered on Yahweh’s kingship and holiness, calling the community to honor him. The surrounding lines repeatedly urge worship and describe Yahweh as ruling with justice, especially in relation to Zion and Israel (see Psalms 99:1–5). Verses 6–7 support these calls by appealing to memory: earlier leaders did not merely speak about Yahweh; they prayed, Yahweh responded, and they lived in line with what was given. The psalm’s movement is from public praise to concrete examples meant to strengthen present worship and obedience.
