Temple and God's Presence in the Bible

This theme appears in passages such as Ezra, where the Bible develops it through story, instruction, warning, and promise. In Ezra 1:3–4, the royal announcement calls any member of the exiled people who wishes to return to go to Jerusalem in Judah and rebuild Yahweh’s house there. The speaker wishes that the returnees’ God would be with them. In Ezra 1:7–8, Cyrus personally orders the temple vessels to be brought out. The narrator ties these items to an earlier removal: Nebuchadnezzar had taken them from Jerusalem and stored them in a Babylonian temple.
