Faith and Perseverance in the Bible

18This charge I commit to you, my child Timothy, according to the prophecies which led the way to you, that by them you may wage the good warfare;

19holding faith and a good conscience; which some having thrust away made a shipwreck concerning the faith;

10For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we have set our trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.

16Pay attention to yourself, and to your teaching. Continue in these things, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

11But you, man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness.

12Fight the good fight of the faith. Lay hold of the eternal life, whereunto you were called, and confessed the good confession in the sight of many witnesses.

13I charge you in the sight of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate testified the good confession,

14that you keep the commandment, without spot, without reproach, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ;

20Timothy, guard that which is committed to you, turning away from the empty chatter and oppositions of the knowledge which is falsely so called;

11To this end we also pray always for you, that our God may count you worthy of your calling, and fulfill every desire of goodness and work of faith, with power;

3We are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers, even as it is appropriate, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of each and every one of you towards one another abounds;

4so that we ourselves boast about you in the assemblies of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and in the afflictions which you endure.

5This is an obvious sign of the righteous judgment of God, to the end that you may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you also suffer.

3But the Lord is faithful, who will establish you, and guard you from the evil one.

12For this cause I suffer also these things. Yet I am not ashamed, for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed to him against that day.

5having been reminded of the unfeigned faith that is in you; which lived first in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice, and, I am persuaded, in you also.

10Therefore I endure all things for the elect`s sake, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

12If we endure, we will also reign with him. If we will deny him, he also will deny us.

3You therefore must endure hardship, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

14But you remain in the things which you have learned and have been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them.

7I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith.

15At the end of ten days their faces appeared fairer, and they were fatter in flesh, than all the youths who ate of the king`s dainties.

16So the steward took away their dainties, and the wine that they should drink, and gave them pulse.

17Now as for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

8But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the king`s dainties, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

32Such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he pervert by flatteries; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and do [exploits].

16Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego answered the king, Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.

17If it be [so], our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace; and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king.

18But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods, nor worship the golden image which you have set up.

28Nebuchadnezzar spoke and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who has sent his angel, and delivered his servants who trusted in him, and have changed the king`s word, and have yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God.

10When Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house (now his windows were open in his chamber toward Jerusalem) and he kneeled on his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did before.

16Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. [Now] the king spoke and said to Daniel, Your God whom you serve continually, he will deliver you.

20When he came near to the den to Daniel, he cried with a lamentable voice; the king spoke and said to Daniel, Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions?

21Then said Daniel to the king, O king, live forever.

22My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions` mouths, and they have not hurt me; because as before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, have I done no hurt.

23Then was the king exceeding glad, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

19Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus,

20by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

21and having a great priest over the house of God;

22let us draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and having our body washed with pure water,

23let us hold fast the confession of our hope unyieldingly. For he who promised is faithful.

24Let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good works,

25not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more, as you see the Day approaching.

26For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins,

27but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries.

28A man who has set at nothing Moses` law dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses.

29How much worse punishment, do you think, will he be judged worthy of, who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

30For we know him who said, "Vengeance belongs to me," says the Lord, "I will repay." Again, "The Lord will judge his people."

31It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

32But remember the former days, in which, after you were enlightened, you endured a great struggle with sufferings;

33partly, being exposed to both reproaches and oppressions; and partly, becoming partakers with those who were treated so.

34For you both had compassion on me in my chains, and joyfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and an enduring one in the heavens.

35Therefore don`t throw away your boldness, which has a great reward.

36For you need patience, so that, having done the will of God, you may receive the promise.

37"For yet a very little while, He who comes will come, and will not wait.

38But the righteous will live by faith. If he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him."

39But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the saving of the soul.

1Therefore let us also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

2looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3For consider him who has endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, that you don`t grow weary, fainting in your souls.

4You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin;

1Therefore we ought to pay greater attention to the things that were heard, lest perhaps we drift away.

2For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompense;

3how will we escape, if we neglect so great a salvation -- which at the first having been spoken through the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard;

4God also bearing witness with them, both by signs and wonders, and by various works of power, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will?

12Beware, brothers, lest perhaps there will be in any one of you an evil heart of unbelief, in falling away from the living God;

13but exhort one another day by day, so long as it is called "today;" lest any one of you be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

14For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our confidence firm to the end:

11Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience.

11We desire that each one of you may show the same diligence to the fullness of hope even to the end,

12that you won`t be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherited the promises.

12Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to those who love him.

21Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.

2Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations,

3Knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.

4Let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

14What good is it, my brothers, if a man says he has faith, but has no works? Can that faith save him?

15And if a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food,

16and one of you tells them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled;" and yet you didn`t give them the things the body needs, what good is it?

17Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself.

21Wasn`t Abraham, our father, justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?

22You see that faith worked with his works, and by works faith was perfected;

23and the scripture was fulfilled which says, "Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness;" and he was called the friend of God.

24You see then that by works, a man is justified, and not only by faith.

25In like manner wasn`t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way?

26For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.

7Be patient therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receives the early and late rain.

8You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.

9Don`t grumble, brothers, against one another, so that you won`t be judged. Behold, the judge stands at the door.

10Take, brothers, for an example of suffering and of patience, the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

11Behold, we call them blessed who endured. You have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the Lord in the end, and how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
